MIDI and automation
There are two ways to control MINERVA Space Echo from outside: MIDI notes sent to the plug-in (VST3 and the standalone app) and parameters that the host maps and automates (AU and VST3).
MIDI notes
With MIDI Note Control on (the default), notes counted from MIDI Base Note (default 36, C1 in Live) trigger actions. MIDI Channel restricts them to one channel (0 = any).
| Note (default) | Offset | Action |
|---|---|---|
| C1 | +0 | Capture |
| C#1 | +1 | Freeze Memory, while the note is held |
| D1 | +2 | Spectral Freeze, while the note is held |
| D#1 | +3 | Clamp Last |
| E1 | +4 | Clamp All |
| F1 | +5 | Unclamp All |
| F#1 | +6 | Clear Unclamped |
| G1 | +7 | Clear All |
| G#1 | +8 | Echo Chain, while the note is held (Sequences) |
| C2 | +12 | Mode Selector: Custom |
| C#2 – G#2 | +13 – +20 | Mode Selector: 1, 2, 3, 2+3, 1+2, 1+3, 1+2+3, Iterative 1+2+3 |
The Control page shows the map for the current base note. Mode changes from MIDI apply immediately and the Mode Selector parameter follows, so they’re recorded if you’re writing automation.
Routing notes in Live
- Put MINERVA Space Echo (VST3) on an audio track.
- Create a MIDI track. In its MIDI To menu choose the audio track, then the plug-in in the menu below.
- Clips on the MIDI track can now freeze, clear, capture and switch heads in time with the music.
The AU is built as an ordinary audio effect, and hosts don’t send notes to those. Use the VST3 for note control, or map parameters as below.
Mapping and automating parameters
Every memory action is also a parameter, so you can map it to a pad or knob with Live’s MIDI Map mode (⌘M) or draw it as automation, in both formats:
| Parameter | Fires when switched on |
|---|---|
| Capture | Capture |
| Clamp Last (Trigger) | Clamp Last |
| Clamp All (Trigger) | Clamp All |
| Unclamp All (Trigger) | Unclamp All |
| Clear Unclamped (Trigger) | Clear Unclamped |
| Clear All (Trigger) | Clear All |
Each fires once on the change from off to on; switch it off again to re-arm. Running (pause), Freeze Memory, Spectral Freeze and Mode Selector are ordinary parameters and map the same way.
All continuous parameters glide when they change, so automation doesn’t click. Memory Capacity and Memory Budget can’t be automated (changing them reorganises memory), and neither can the MIDI settings.
